Lalique in Lisbon





Let´s leave the historic and majestic sites of Lisbon for a while and feast on these exquisite pieces from René Lalique. Born in France, he was a very famous glass designer who designed perfume bottles and exotic jewelry pieces among others.The first time I knew about the Lalique name was a bottle of perfume gifted to me by a cousin of mine from Belgium about a decade ago. Little did I know that there´s something more in the Lalique name. When we visited Salamanca(Spain) more than 2 years ago, the hubz brought me to this quaint Art Nouveau/Art Deco Museum which houses some of Lalique´s fabulous works. Right then and there I was hooked on his delicate creations. To my surprise, I found his works in Lisbon!Here´s a design of one his many lady dragonfly brooches:


Isn´t it fabulous? You know me, I like blings and artsy stuff. ;)  You can see a sample of  his works  at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. All the more reason to visit Lisbon. What more, on Sundays the museum entrance is free. Consider that a double treat! ;)

oh by the way, lunch break are somewhat the same with us, her problem is she wants me to prepare my things for my next class instead of sleeping and taking a break. Gawd...I signed up for a contract that says 4 hours of teaching per day and that does not count my lunch break...oh well I still smile at her...and she is getting annoyed everyday :D

Skirting the Issue

Halooo! So how´s your weekend? ;) Mine was spent visiting the new flat ( we just had the new sofa delivered, yey!) and last Saturday we went to this mini-food fair where they sell lots of goodies. I tasted some chorizos, jamon serrano, and a glass of white wine too. Too bad I forgot to take the camera so no photos to show you but we brought home some sweets which unfortunately we also gobbled up during the weekend. hihihi! At least I´ve spared you from breaking your diets this summer. ;) Truth be told, I don´t look good wearing high waisted skirts because I have wide hips ( I´m good at hiding them here ;) . Maybe I could pull off wearing them 10 yrs. ago when I still have a slimmer silhouette, er, smaller waistine and hips and a flatter middle but now everything especially my hips are expanding faster like the speed of light. Flyday Fridays: Paris (part 1)

The first time I went to Paris was in early spring. It was raining and gloomy but that didn´t stop me from falling in love with this romantic city. Here are some things to do and places to visit when you´re in Pa-gheee . ;) 1, 2, 3: Get lost inside le Louvre,  pass by   Mona Lisa´s room and get mesmerized by her coy smile and if you like ancient jewelry, be enthralled by the museum´s jewelry collection. Even the bishop´s crozier is bejeweled! 4: Admire the Sainte Chapelle´s amazing ceiling, structure and colorful stained glass windows. 5,6: Fall in line (entrance is free!) and admire the sculpture and stained windows of the Notre Dame. By this time you´re very tired and so take a rest at the park/garden at the back of the church. Later you can cross the small bridge and have your lunch at one of the numerous creperies and restaurants in the small island. 7,8: After a light lunch, take the metro and go to Montmartre and visit the Sacré Coeur.
