WIWW: Tiger Print

Hi, all! :)

P2260008

Welcome to another edition of What I Wore Wednesday! As you know, I´m a late bloomer in the animal prints game. If I didn´t start blogging, I wouldn´t dare wearing animal prints because I always prefer solid prints or florals. But then, the blogosphere is so convincing that in my1st year of blogging, I started buying animal printed stuff. It started with a snake skin bangle, a pair of leopard printed tights, more snakeskin and more leopard. As for tiger prints, I preferred a tiger face print which I wore here, here and on this shirt dress. This time however, I found this tiger printed sweater hanging on one of the sales rack and decided to give it a try. I loved it! :)

P2260007

I paired this exotic printed top with a flirty circle skirt with dark tights, a studded clutch( are studs still in?), a chunky chain necklace and to finish the whole look, a starfish ring just because... ;)

P2260009
top- Zara TRF, skirt- Bershka, clutch, jewelry- Blanco
So would you dare wear tiger prints? ;) Linking up with The Pleated Poppy´s What I Wore Wednesday, Rolled Up Pretty´s Whatever Whenever Wednesday and The Grant Life´s Style Copy Cat Closet: Animal Prints.

Happy mid-week! :)

Anything Goes Monday: Beauty Regimen

Today on Anything Goes Monday, let´s talk abut something that I never mention here in the blog, my so-called beauty regimen or little thereof, hahaha! Anyway, I´m the type of gal who believes that less is better. I´m not one who likes to complicate things and so I opt for a simple beauty routine. Moreover, you don´t have to use the most expensive brands to look really good, it´s a question of finding the right brand for you and eating healthy because what you eat is what you look. In my case, I stick to the basics and it works for me. :)

1. Hair

I have medium-thick wavy hair and it usually dries up during the very hot months and winter and so I shampoo it every other day. Surprisingly, this silicone-free shampoo and conditioner duo by Pantene makes my hair straighter and finer which I like. Also, just before blow drying I put on a tiny drop or two of  hair oil to seal the ends, thus, I don´t end up with dry and unmanageable hair.

P2250008

2. Face

I´m lucky that I inherited the clear (facial) skin gene of my parents and so having pimples are a rarity although I do get them once in a while when I have those hormonal imbalance days. I clean my face with an exfoliant and then finish it off with this dark spot corrector by Garnier which I´ve been using for months now. My dark spots have not totally disappeared but it actually did lighten! ;) For those really cold days, I also put on this Olay moisturizer over the Garnier. The Olay moisturizer has a very light texture which I love wearing during spring and those cool summer days. For those really sunny days, after putting on the moisturizer, I finish off with a SPF 50 sunscreen from L´oreal. The sunscreen has a quite sticky texture and so I only use it when it really gets sunny outside. I use a facial mask sparingly, only on those days when I feel that I have greasy skin.

P2250015

3. Body

I´m a gal who likes to use beauty essentials in pairs and so what I use as a shower gel is usually the same brand or scent that I use as a lotion and even the cologne. ;)

P2250009

For the light summer days, I usually use these fruit scented products by Yves Rocher, a French brand way much cheaper than L´Occitane. The lotion has a very light texture, perfect for those days when you don´t like to put on an extra heavy lotion on your body.

P2250011

I´m a Body Shop lover, I´ve been using their products for years! It´s too bad that the local Body Shop store here in my city closed down and so this is the last of what I have that I´m using right now, the Moringa scented gel and body butter. For those very especial days, I use this floral line by L´Occitane. I use L´Occitane products sparingly because they´re not really cheap, hehe but the quality of the shampoo, scents and lotions is really top notch! As for drugstore brands, I alteranately use between Dove (not pictured here) and Nivea. They´re great especially for those really cold days because they moisturize really well. Just don´t forget to slather on your creams or lotions when your skin still damp to maximize absorption by the skin. ;)

P2250013

Well, there goes my simple beauty regimen. So what´s yours? ;)

Happy Monday, it´s still snowing heavily in here!

Cold hugs,

Che

Food Weekend: Dinner Options

Hello there! :)

As part of  my *cough* less meat diet, I´ve been whipping up meatless dishes lately for dinner. One of these are shitake mushrooms which are becoming  a favorite of mine. I just love the smell and the creamy taste of shitake mushrooms when cooked. :)

Shitake and Cheese(optional) Omelette is a meatless dish made of stir fried strips of shitake mushrooms in toasted garlic, beaten eggs and parsley bits. I love adding grated or cubed cheese just before removing it from fire. It makes the whole dish creamier although it tastes delish as is without the cheese.

P1160227

Canapes or montaditos in Spanish are for those days when the hubz and I just wanted something light for dinner. The ingredients are a no-brainer and you can find them easily in your refrigerator. I use mayonnaise, smoked salmon and top it with chopped green and black olives and pickled chinese cucumbers. They can be time consuming to chop and arrange but the burst of flavors is worth it!

P2140002

For those really hungry nights, I turn to our all-time favorite, pasta. Instead of having bolognese or carbonara as sauce, I want  my spaghetti fairly simple. I just use a really good quality olive oil ( Spain has one of the best), toast garlic, add the shrimps, the pasta, bits of laurel leaf  for extra flavor, et voila! Just before serving, I sprinkle some dried parsley on it for color.

P2140006

So what do you usually have for dinner nowadays? ;)

¡Qué aproveche!

Flyday Fridays: Assisi and Siena

Hello!

This is going to be a short post but with a lot of photos. I haven´t taken a lot of photos of Assisi because we spent most of our time inside the church and as usual, they don´t allow picture taking inside churches in the major cities of Italy. So here´s the deal, photos of me outside of the church were taken at Assisi and the landscape photos in-between were from Siena, one of the most beautiful and picturesque cities in Tuscany. Got it? ;)

WIWW: Black, White and Gray

Hello, dahlings! :)
P2170022

Today on WIWW, I pulled out my old midi wool skirt and have gone preppy again. It´s the same look as
last week´s but with a longer skir and this time the color scheme´s black, white and gray. Yep, I´m on a style rut, people! ;) The hubz calls this the executive look because he says I look serious( and very mature) and maybe, he does have a point because whenever I wear black and gray, I look my real age. Hahaha!

P2170004
P2170003

I carried a magenta colored clutch to inject some color to the whole look while the puffer jacket is for the cold weather. Would you try this color scheme or would you opt for more brighter colors?

Anything Goes Monday: Thinking of Spring

Spring´s right in the air. Can you smell it? I can even see bright yellow flowers on the green grass yesterday! Call it cliché but when I think of spring, flowers always come to my mind and this pretty floral dress that I have which unfortunately don´t fit me any longer. Unless I go on a crash diet which I doubt I would (hehe!), I´d wear this over and over again. It looks and and also feels so fresh when I´m wearing it!

Leon and Oviedo 136 - copia

Needless to say, I´ll just make do with wha I have right now by wearing a nude skirt and complementing it with burgundy. There´s nothing wrong in extending the trend one season more, isn´t? ;)

P1080025
skirt- Stradivarius
But I´ll still look for that perfect floral spring dress which will fit me to a T sans crash diet OR it could be in a pastel color just like the lavender below. ;)

Are you thinking of spring right now? ;)

Flyday Fridays: Inside the Vatican

Hello, everyone!

Today, I´ll show you a little about what´s inside The Vatican. By the way, this may be old news to you but  the current Pope, Pope Benedict XVI has just renounced the Ministry of Bishop in Rome, something unexpected for the last 600 years.

Anyway, while I was living in my hot tropical country, I made three vows: one, to visit St, James of Compostela in Spain( which I did twice), second to visit the Holy land (which I´ve yet to do in the future) and third, to visit the Vatican City in Rome. I just did the last one last year while I was an on a week-long Italian tour. It was one of those super fast visit with a tour guide but the images will stay with me for a lifetime.

The Vatican Museum has one of the best art collections in the world and it shows. It was ransacked a lot of times but it withstood the test of time.

P1160799

If I´m not mistaken, this Greek sculpture of a torso of a man was the model of Michaelangelo´s works. You know those buffed guys, on his paintings and sculptures? Well, dahlings, this is the original inspiration. ;)

P1160797

The goddess of fertility, this is a pagan goddess but it fits right in the Vatican. :)

P1160811

This one caught my fancy, the tickle sculpture. ;)

P1160810

Now let´s proceed to the Sistine Chapel while admiring the corridors´ ceilings:

P1160813

Ooops, I forgot that photography is FORBIDDEN inside the Sistine Chapel! I couln´t snap even once because the guards keep on shouting¨No Photos!¨ all the time and they mean it!

Anyway, I´m glad that they allow picture taking inside the Saint Peter´s Basilica. This is the ¨Pieta¨. They had to cover this in glass because in the 1970s, a deranged geologist tried to destroy this historic and important sculpture by Michaelangelo. I magine if the guy succeeded in totally smashing this piece, he would have destroyed more than half a millenium of unforgettable art and history!

P1160832

This is the ceiling of the cupola of the basilica where the main altar is located. It´s impressive and on the ground below the altar is where St. Peter and the rest of the popes are buried. The St. Peter´s Basilica is a church built over other  churches since the 4th century

P1160849

Lastly, this wasn´t what I wore when I visited The Vatican, this was when I we visited the Catacombs of  Callixto, one of the largest and oldest underground cemeteries in Rome.

P1160725

The visit to The Vatican was one of my travel highlights in my life and I´m thankful that I did it with the person that I love despite the suffocating heat wave during that time. hahaha!

How about you? Would you visit this place? It´s worth it, I tell yah! :)

Enjoy the weekend.

WIWW: V-Day Outfit

P2120007

If you´re wondering what I´m going to wear for dinner tomorrow, this is it! Last year I wore printed pants on Valentine´s Day, this year I´m going to wear a (faux) red leather skirt and style it a la preppy. ;)

P2120012

Having this heart necklace was a coincidence, I didn´t know that it has a heart-shaped design, swear! Serendipity, much? :)

P2120015

Finishing the look with my old fave clutch, the metallic clutch. Now who says, you gotta wear a slinky dress on V- day? I´ll be on a full preppy gear and the hubz would love it just the same. Well, that´s just us. It could be different for you and your guy/your date. ;)

P2120011

Anythign Goes Monday: Pinterest

When I get tired of looking at fashion sites and personal style blogs for inspiration, I turn to Pinterest. I know you do that too! ;) It´s the only site so far(IMO) where you can browse and oggle at your favorite things in one place and then save/pin them and for in-depth reading( especially recipes and DYIs) later. The pins also link back to the original uploader which to me is a very good way to acknowledge the source.

Anyway, it was in Pinterest where I got to learn how to loosen one of my super tight shoes in minutes and it works! You only need your hair drier, thick socks and your tight shoes. Put your feet with  thick socks on  inside the shoes. Heat the part( not too close!) where it´s tight for a few seconds or more. Wiggle and spread your toes. Allow the shoes to cool down without removing your feet. Repeat again if needed but don´t remove feet with socks until the shoes have cooled down so that the leather will completely mold to your feet.  I got this DYI idea here . You can try it, it really work for me! :)

P1120342

One thing that I don´t understand though is how come a black and white dotted top or pants or a black and white vertical or in the case of what I´m wearing, horizontal stripes have been appearing in Pinterest as monochrome this or monochrome that. It baffles me. Shouldn´t be these called two-tone and stripes?

P2050001
top- Zara, skirt- Bershka
What do you think?;)

Food Weekend: Tapas/Pinchos

Today on food weekend let´s talk about tapas or pinchos as what they call here in the Spanish basque region.

P1160417
far right: boiled egg, surimi strips and mayo with shrimps on top
These are canapé like bread, eggs or vegetable and topping combinations sold in every bar in Spain. They are not only colorful and tasty but tummy filling too. There are a gazillion of combinations you can find and are worth every bite. ;) They´re perfect as a snack, for lunch and even as a light dinner too!

P1160420
morcilla*  slices with fried quail egg
They can also come in pizza type or quiche:
P1160426
peppers, bacon, mushrooms, onions
with veggie( zucchini), caramelized bell peppers/onions and chicken

P1160421

or with pan fried/roasted whole green peppers topped on a bed of juicy loin.

P1160419

What´s more important is that it has everything that you want in a sandwich but in small portions. Matches well with a glass of wine, a pitcher of sangría, beer, juice or any beverage that you want. The possibilities are endless! ;)

Did I make you hungry? ;)

Come back for more tapa/pincho photos on my next food posts. I´m making this a bi-monthly  tradition or even tri-monthly if I have the time. :)

Happy Sunday!

Flyday Fridays: Paris (Part 2)

Today on Flyday Fridays let´s talk about a palace, museums and  the historic quarter of France ´s most famous university. In other words, let´s talk about culture. ;) First, I must tell you to get a MUSEUM PASS online or at any tourism office when you arrive in Paris. I assure you, getting this pass saves time(shorter or no queuing!), money(entrance to the most important museums/monuments are free) and you can visit as much as 60 museums in and around Paris. How´s that for a deal? :)

Anyway, a trip to Paris is never complete without a visit to the Versailles and it´s gardens. Unfortunately, I went there on a stormy day( yep, so unlucky for me) and so I never did get to enjoy the lovely palace grounds and Marie Antoinette´s  apartment. Even so, I had a lovely time inside the palace and it´s even photogenic despite the bad weather, no? ;)

Paris(Aprul 02-05-2010) 011

If you love contemporary arts like Monet, Manet, Degas,Gaugin, etc..., what I can I say, the Musée d´Orsay has the best collection. It´s worth the visit although be careful, photography isn´t allowed in this museum! Don´t say that I didn´t warn you when you get caught. ;) Anyway, that´s me sitting in-between the statues of Asia and Africa outside of the museum about two years ago.

Paris(Aprul 02-05-2010) 182
Paris (22-25, April 2011) 059

If your ¨trip¨ is modern art, and you´re a fan of Picasso, Kandinsky, Gris, Chagall, Dalí and Warhol among others, then the Musée National d´Arte Moderne is for you housed at Centre Pompidou. I had my fill of cubism, dada, surrealism, etc. in this museum. I´m a fan of abstract art although most of the time I don´t understand them. lol! By the way, the building has a sky deck which allows you to photograph the skyline of one side of Paris. You can even see the Sacre Couer from a distance. :)

Paris(Aprul 02-05-2010) 186

As for super classic art and srchitecture, you can visit the Musée de Cluny  which houses artifacts from the Middle Ages.

Paris (22-25, April 2011) 128

Paris (22-25, April 2011) 135

After visiting the Cluny Museum, take a walk pass by the historic quarter of the University of Paris in Sorbonne. It was closed when we got there and so we didn´t get to see what´s inside but it´s such a lovely place to stop, rest and have a cup of coffee and probably some crepes to go with while people watching. ;)

Paris (22-25, April 2011) 142

You can really tell that this is  a ¨university town¨ because the metro´s ceiling of Cluny Sorbonne is filled with the signatures of the famous philosophers, poets, writers and even scientists and kings who have paid tribute to this Latin Quartier for eight centuries. It has also this bird mosaic which I love!;)

Paris (22-25, April 2011) 143

I discovered the Musée de l´Orangerie by accident while the hubz and I were taking taking our afternoon siesta at theTuileries Garden located between the Place de Concorde and the Louvre. As I was fanning myself because it was terribly hot at that time(it´s early spring but it felt like summer!) I saw this beautiful building at our left. It not only has a small but impressive collection of contemporary artists but it also houses this beautiful painting of Coco Chanel and a whole sala( or was it two?) of Claude Monet´s Water Lilies. I hit the jackpot!

Paris (22-25, April 2011) 213
Paris (22-25, April 2011) 199
Paris (22-25, April 2011) 212

Y por supuesto( and of course), I had to have my photo taken with one of impressive water lily paintings in the background as a souvenir shot, see that giddy face? ;)

That´s it for now. Sorry for the long post. I hope you learned a little from the photo overload and the non-stop rambling, hahaha!

Have fun and enjoy the weekend dahlings while I stay warm over here. :)

Ciao!
