Flyday Fridays: A Date With Elche
Halloooo!
Happy Friday, dahlings!
Today, I´m taking you on a date(pun intended) to the city of Elche in Valencia, Spain. I´d like to call it as the palm tree city of Spain because of it´s more than 200,000 palm trees grown over generations. Moreover, the kilometers of palm grove was awared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000. This is just one of the main parks of the city a few meters from the train station.
Of course, I had to take a posterity shot of the fountain in the background. ;)
Below is the Altamira Castle originally built between the12-13th century which is now part of the Elche Archaeology and History Museum.
I also found these giant figures inside the museum which are present in Spanish fiestas and are usuaully paraded around.
Elche is also known for one of the most important archaeological finds in Spain, the stone bust of the beautiful Lady of Elche dated in the Iberian period (4th BC). This is just a replica, the original is found at the National Archaeological Museum of Spain in Madrid.
The Altamira Castle has a walkway on top which allows a bird´s eye view of the city and the park. As for what I wore, it´s nothing fancy. I opted for something military because of my coat, hehe.
A beautiful spherical sculpture in one of the plazas:
and here´s how one of the church doors look like at the Basilica of Sta. María:
Later , we visited the Palm Groves Museum and stayed there for a while and admiring one date tree to another. These trees are by the thousands and extend to a thousand miles too.
I love this pic of me with the tall palm trees in the background because it reminded me of home. Only that instead of seeing young green coconuts on top, I´m seeing dates instead. ;)
We also visited el Huerto de Cura, a jungle like garden filled with cactuses, palm trees and other tropical plants but without the wild animals but that would be another story though. ;) I hope you liked reading my post today.
Tomorrow, I´m meeting with my friend who´s coming to visit me and like always, we´d probably end up in the mall, lol!
Enjoy the weekend, y´all!
Hugs,
Che
